When energy protesters first came on the scene they were disruptive, rappelling into meetings from the rafters, or tying themselves to pieces of heavy equipment or doing something to hamper the work of a legitimate energy business.
Then they went for a time from seemingly intolerant to intelligent.
They started using arguments we could understand and debate backed with numbers and studies and even court cases to make their point.
Even Premier Notley picked up some political cred by supporting pipelines that met environmental requirements.
I thought those opposed to pipelines wanted hearings, and those hearings, by the National Energy Board were supposed to start yesterday. You know what happened.
Opponents put their own process in reverse, going from intelligent back to intolerant, with a sneak attack on the meeting that accomplished their goal of cancelling it, not with words of wisdom, but with a temper tantrum, because they don’t trust the NEB.
They denied both sides their freedom to express opinions, and instead of participating brought us full circle on silliness.
Let me know what you think.
