Pokémon Go continues to get people off their couches and walking around looking for the creatures and a NAIT instructor is using the game to get people in shape.
Amy Eversley says one goal is walking 10 kilometres each week, which hatches eggs in the game.
“For blood pressure, reducing body fat, you’re mental well-being is going to better, you’ll get better sleep,” explains Eversley. “So that’s kind of the main focus of Pokémon Go but we’ve included some extra workouts just for participating that you get to do.”
Eversley says the game already gets you active but with a bit more of a workout added. She says they added the burpee, which she feels is the most hated workout, to the game.
“When you level up, you have to do that many burpees,” explains Eversley. “The good news is, you only level up maybe every two or three days, depending on how often you’re playing but it is a really good total body workout.”
Eversley says every time you level up you do a burpee, when you hatch an egg you do a plank, side plank and wall sit.
“There is a lot of Pokémon you catch that can fly,” explains Eversley. “So just to get the heart rate up, get the metabolism going a little bit while you’re walking, we included whenever you find a flying Pokémon you have to do 10 jumping jacks.”
She adds exercising with a game makes it more fun and you forget your exercising. (twd, Weekend Morning News)
