Every driver gets passed on the highway by speeders, but at 192 kilometers an hour?
You’ve heard how RCMP charged a 36 year old man from Fort McMurray on Highway 63 south of Wandering River.
He is slated to face the judge in Boyle in November and I wonder if he’ll have an explanation.
In the past, excessive speeders have said they just wanted to see how fast the car would go or, they just had the car washed and were trying to dry it off.
At the moment, this accused speeder could face a $2,300 fine and a driving suspension of up to 90 days.
I say that’s not tough enough, although some insist on pointing out that excessive speed, in and of itself, does not kill.
In some other provinces, police can seize the cars of those going 50K over the limit.
In Alberta, something similar is due to pass through the legislature in the next couple of months.
Police have been asking for this for years.
Let hope the province can put the pedal to the metal on this speeder seizure bill, and not let it stall or roll into some political ditch.
Let me know what you think.
