Some positive news, at last, in the job numbers for Alberta.
After rising by almost two and a half percent over a year, our province’s unemployment rate dropped by 0.2%, to 8.4% from July to August. It’s still the highest of the provinces outside of the maritimes.
While only 2,700 jobs were gained, they were made up of the creation of 21,000 full-time positions, and the loss of 18,000 part-time jobs.
In Edmonton our unemployment rate edged closer to the province’s, up 0.3% to 8%.
Across the country, employment was up by 26 thousand jobs, with the jobless rate going up 0.1% to 7%. (kdr)
