Two hundred thousand dollars was raised in Wednesday’s Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event for the Edmonton YWCA.
630 CHED’s Andrew Grose was one of 340 men who put on high heeled stilettos and walked laps around Churchill Square over the noon hour. Why? “Well, you know what? It’s just really important. Last year, there were 20 thousand women and children who needed the support of the YWCA. 14 thousand of those women and children were not able to get that support because the demand is so great.”
How did it feel to walk a mile in stilettos? “I just don’t understand how women do this. Because I really was in pain even before this walk started. I just feel like my toes are being squished into points at the top. And I can’t walk backwards, because I just don’t have the balance.”
The money goes to the YWCA’s family violence recovery and prevention programs. (eb)
