A new dog walking app known as Spot has launched in Edmonton.
You can apply to be a dog walker, where you’ll make 60 percent of the hourly fee; or pay the $30 an hour to have your dog walked, even if you’re not at home via a supplied lock box.
“It’s really neat,” remarked Michaela Barkwell who has signed up to be a dog walker with Spot. “And I live away from home — so away from my dog — so this is a great opportunity to spend time with more of them.”
Barkwell says there are background checks and personal interviews for dog walkers, along with customer meet and greets if desired, GPS tracking, and no group walks.
“I have my own profile, and if somebody has a dog available at the time that I’m available, they can send me a personal request. And then we can have a meet and greet — myself and the dogs — and then we can go from there.”
Barkwell says it also allows the dogs to make a new friend.
“They spend most of the time with their owners, obviously, so if they get more interaction with new walkers . . . it just gives them more opportunity I guess.” (Global News/td)
