With the deck stacked against them, the Eskimos came up with a huge over the BC Lions Friday night on the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.
Playing their 4th game in 19 days, against a team coming off a bye week and a 13 day break the Eskimos beat the BC Lions 27-23, after getting down 14-0 early. The win ends a 3 game slide and puts the Eskimos into a playoff spot in the East via the crossover.
Shakir Bell had 108 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to lead the offence. Bell became the first Eskimos running back with at least 20 carries in a game since Hugh Charles did it in July of 2012. Filling in for John White, Bell now averages over 100 yards per game and has scored two touchdowns.
The game had a thrilling end with a hail mary pass by Jonathon Jennings to the Eskimos end zone on the final play – it ended up in the hands of Eskimos defensive back Brandyn Thompson for the 2nd interception of the game for the Eskimos defence. They now have 10 picks in the last 8 games.
The Eskimos move to 6 and 7 on the season as the Lions drop to 8 and 4.
