The three officers were attending a domestic dispute call when they were shot. Police Chief Bryan Reyes tells reporters that the officers were calmly defusing the situation when the man opened fire.
The two that have been killed are veteran officer Jose Vega, and 27 year old Lesley Zerebny. Zerebny had just returned to duty after giving birth just four months ago.
Immediately following the shooting, the SWAT team surrounded the house where the shooting happened, believing the suspect could still be inside. Shortly before 2:00am Sunday, The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced they had taken a suspect into custody.
