Ryan O’Reilly had four points, leading the Buffalo Sabres to a 6-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night at Rogers Place.
The Sabres controlled the game throughout, jumping out to a 2-0 lead before the game was eight minutes old and scoring two goals in every period.
Benoit Pouliot and Milan Lucic scored late in the first period for the Oilers only offence. Pouliot was later benched for the final two periods after taking two more minor penalties to go with the three he took Friday in Calgary. Lucic’s goal gave him 400 career points.
Cam Talbot was shaky in goal, allowing O’Reilly’s bouncer from centre ice to elude him early in the second period and put Buffalo ahead to stay. Talbot was replaced by Jonas Gustavsson at 9:22 of the second after allowing four goals on 15 shots. However, Jonas Gustavsson was later removed from the game minutes after being crashed into by Adam Larsson. Talbot played the final 20:33.
The Oilers fall to 2-1 on the season. They’ll host Carolina Tuesday at 7pm. (jrw)
