Edmontonians in need were given a helping hand over the weekend at the 17th Homeless Connect event.
It took place Sunday at the Shaw Conference Centre with things like free teeth cleaning, clothing and haircuts — even help with taxes.
Susan McGee, with Homeward Trust Edmonton, says they were also looking to connect people with housing; while aiming to change the stigma surrounding those who attend.
“It is something people are experiencing. It’s not who they are.”
McGee points out that only around half of the people taking advantage of the event are currently homeless, with the other half at risk of becoming homelessness after losing their jobs.
“For us to end homelessness as a community, we have to really rethink the problem.” (Global News/td)
