Voters in deep southern Alberta are staying Conservative.
They chose to succeed the late Conservative MP Jim Hillyer, with a retired police officer, Conservative Glen Motz.
The Liberals had been hoping for a break-through, and the day before the advance polls opened they brought in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to get the crowds whipped up for Liberal candidate.
A crowd came to see and hear and adore him, but in the end the Liberal candidate got only 25% of the vote.
MP to be, Glen Motz says when it came to the Prime Minister, many were angered with his arrogance.
I’m sure Trudeau’s people knew it was a gamble.
Here we have a province largely dependent on oil, and instead of help and jobs, we get a coming carbon tax that affects not only the energy industry but every person in the province as the price of everything rises.
Trudeau may have brought his nice hair and talk of sunny ways and a big smile, but, as Motz points out, he brought no substance.
Lesson to politicians: Sometimes when you bring out the big gun, it can backfire.
Let me know what you think.
