The jobless rate in the Edmonton region started to stabilize after five months of losses.
The latest numbers show Edmonton’s unemployment rate dropped from 8% in August to 7.7% in September.
The construction, energy and manufacturing sectors saw gains, which helped offset losses in the information, finance and professional services sectors. Modest growth was also seen in part-time employment numbers.
The Edmonton region saw average weekly wages continue to move up, resulting in an annual growth rate of 4.1 per cent.
Calgary’s September unemployment rate was 9.5%. (bw)
