It’s time for the final Eskimos regular season game, and that means you’re being asked to bring a toy or donation down to the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium with you.
It’s part of the annual 630 CHED Santas Anonymous toy drive with the Eskimos.
Santas Executive Director Lana Nordlund said that there’s a lot of different ways to help out.
“If you bring a cheque, then we have your address right on the cheque and we’ll send you a tax receipt from the office,” Nordlund explained. “Otherwise, you can pop a twenty in there, or whatever you can afford. Every little bit counts. We do purchase toys for the age groups that we don’t get enough donations for. And of course there’s other supplies.”
Nordlund said that if you bring a toy it should be unwrapped.
“We do match them up with a book and a couple of other little items,” Nordlund said. “We usually have a primary gift with a couple of other little items, so we want to make sure they all go together well. (Keeping) them unwrapped is less work for us.”
Nordlund added that they’ll be set up all over the stadium.
“We’re going to have elves at every one of the gates,” Nordlund said. “They’ll be collecting new, unwrapped toys as well as monetary donations. You can’t miss them. Some will have elf hats on and some will have Santa hats. But they’ll all be in their Santas Anonymous green jerseys. You can ask them question if you like, or you can always go to SantasAnonymous.ca if you have any questions.”
Nordlund said that since they’re expecting a large crowd, with a good looking forecast, she thinks they can beat their record of $14,000 in donations.
Temperatures are expecting to hit 18 degrees on Saturday afternoon.
She’s also hoping to completely stuff the 103.9 CISN Country Kool bus with toys, last year it was about half-full.
Game time between the Eskimos and Toronto Argonauts is at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The pre-game show on 630 CHED will start at 12:30 p.m. (km/jrw/bw)
