The man convicted of kidnapping Richard Suter and cutting off Suter’s thumb could finally get sentenced today.
In January 2015, Suter was awaiting trial for incident where he refused to provide a breath sample after his SUV crashed into a restaurant patio killing a two-year-old boy.
That’s when three men claiming to be police officers picked up Suter from his own home, loaded him into a truck, and drove 15 minutes away before cutting off his thumb.
In June, Steven Vollrath was found guilty of kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and impersonating a police officer.
The Crown is looking for 15 years, Defence wants 5 to 8. (bw/djs)
