A friendship between two neighbours resulted in a generous helping hand Saturday.

Mary Martin says it all began with a chance meeting one day in Sherwood Park.
“I met Daniel’s mom. I seen her working so hard on her yard and I took her over a yogurt because I thought she needed a snack, and that’s how we met and got to be friends.”
Daniel, as it happens, is the Williams part of Zorzetto Williams Construction, and Anthony Zorzetto says they soon learned Mary was recently widowed and on disability unable to afford the cost of replacing the deck entrance to her mobile home.
“There’s a sign on there that says you can’t even use it and it was valid; it was rotting away. It’s her means of egress and how to get in and out of the house, so we decided that we’ve got to step up and build a new one.”
Mary’s been watching the progress from her house. With no deck, it’s a big jump to get outside. The volunteers have set the base now #yeg pic.twitter.com/PbmGjYIGrc — Sarah Kraus Global (@SarahNKraus) November 12, 2016
So, with their company supplying the material and Facebook spreading the word, a number of journeymen carpenters answered the call to turn Mary’s initial offer of friendship into an $8,000 response.
“I was just stunned; and tears; and had to get away from them because I couldn’t deal . . . “ (Global News/td)
