Days after a female candidate cited intolerable abuse as her reason for pulling out of the race for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative party, a male candidate told reporters he’s also had verbal threats aimed at him.
Jason Kenney told Global News that Sandra Jansen isn’t the only one who has experienced bullying.
“Endless attacks online and one person’s campaign manager said he wanted to be the expletive out of me. That was Miss Jansen’s campaign manager,” he said.
Steven Carter says Kenney took his comments out of context.
“I wanted to beat him electorally. I wanted to kick his ass electorally,” Carter explained. “I wanted to see him in the field of battle of politics and win, that’s the point. But he wants to equate this to bullying.”
Jansen pulled out of the campaign Tuesday, saying she could no longer take the personal and online abuse she has endured from supporters of another candidate. (kb) (with files from Global News)
