Albertans seem to appreciate the Workers’ Compensation Board, but they think it’s far from perfect.
A three member panel has been working since March on a review of the WCB, looking into its governance, policies and effectiveness.
Review panel chair, Mia Norrie, told the Alberta Morning News, 2,000 people weighed in with their concerns around the WCB.
“I would say it’s been incredible feedback,” said Norrie. “It does tell us that we have a big job ahead of us… employers, and workers, and worker representatives all have very similar concerns about the system.”
Norrie said an ongoing review with Occupational Health and Safety will also soon have an impact on the WCB, as well as the implementation of Bill 6, involving farm-worker safety.
The review has found many Albertans are concerned with a system being called “disrespectful” and “dehumanizing” to injured workers, and “frustrating” to work with. (scb)
