Come mid-December a new keyboard full of Edmonton themed emojis will be released.
Sandra Sperounes said she got the idea while on Twitter.
“I was tweeting about emojis, ordinary emojis and all of a sudden I realized if you add the letter ‘D’ you get EDMOjis and hey we could have an entire line of Edmonton inspired emojis.”
Soon enough for under 3$ you’ll be able to add the keyboard to your phone.
The project is the brainchild of Sperounes and Lucas Timmons.
“We have the Muttart Conservatory, we have sad Don Iveson, we also have happy Don Iveson. We have the Wayne Gretzky statue, rabbits, magpies, machetes.”
Sperounes said they didn’t ask the Mayor if they could use him for an emoji, but if he sees it and doesn’t like it, they’ll take it down.
She said the EDMOjis are a fun way for Edmontonians to show off their city.
“There’s so much Edmonton pride that it would be nice to reflect that in our texts, we text so much.”
The pair crowdfunded the project and raised over $1,500 in three days, with the original goal being $1,000, and if this keyboard is successful they’re considering making other city specific lines for cities across Canada.
They currently have 40 EDMOjis but are hoping to have 60 by the time the keyboard is released in mid-December and will be available to download through the app store.
