Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership candidate, Jason Kenney, is being fined $5,000 for showing up to the Edmonton-Ellerslie delegate selection meeting Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Kenney’s campaign team is alleged to have rented and operated a hospitality room on site at the meeting, and Kenney himself being on site just before the meeting started.
PC leadership rules forbid any candidate from being “in or near” a selection meeting.
PC Association of Alberta volunteers in attendance of the meeting and two leadership campaigns, lodged a complaint with the party’s Chief Electoral Officer.
The association’s board of directors met Sunday to discuss the allegations, and decided to issue the fine following recommendations from the Chief Electoral Officer.
It was also decided that a new delegate selection meeting will also be held in Edmonton-Ellerslie.
In a release, PC Party President Katherine O’Neill said “Our party is committed to a fair, open and transparent race during this leadership process. We want to rebuild our trust and relationship with all Albertans.” (dac)
