It’s not often you hear the kind of passion and anger we just heard at the legislature.
It was an emergency debate asked for by Wildrose and agreed to by the NDP.
It’s not uncommon for emergency debates to be called for, but usually for purely political reasons.
This one came from the heart as politicians, and no doubt, you, were touched by the details surrounding the death of 4 year old Serenity while in kinship care.
There is evidence the little girl had been subjected to sexual and physical abuse and she had a massive brain injury.
The legislature heard how the government withheld details to protect the police investigation.
Highly emotional MLAs talked about ongoing problems with child care and health care that never improve, and the secrecy involving these situations.
We heard how no one had checked on this little girl in eleven months.
How many times have we heard over the years that too few social workers have too much work to do?
If only the emotion we heard at this meeting could lead to change.
But, if the past is any indication, I fear that when all is said and done, more will be said, than will ever be done.
Let me know what you think.
