There is just five weeks left until Christmas, which means there are only 24 days left until volunteers deliver toys to kids across the city.
Lana Nordlund with 630CHED Santas Anonymous says donations are down so far this year.
“Donations are lower than previous years at this point in November,” explains Nordlund. “We anticipated that because of the economy and all the things that have happened within our province this year and the face of Edmonton has changed.”
Nordlund expects a spike in donations once we hit December.
“We’re about 24 days away from delivery weekend and we cut off on December the 12th, so about five days before that (delivery day),” explains Nordlund. “We need those toys into the Santas depot now so we can prepare them.”
She is also praying for snow, stating every time it snows they get a surge in donations.
“Right now, we have about 500 more children on our list than we had at this time last year and that could also be a variety thing, that people are applying early,” explains Nordlund. “We are thinking, and knowing, the ask will be up soon.”
You can drop off an unwrapped toy at boxes at shopping centres, the Santas warehouse at the Jerry Forbes Centre at 12122-68 Street or here at the Corus building at 5204 84 Street. (twd)
