An open letter written ahead of a meeting of Canada’s first ministers says a carbon price is the most cost-effective way to reduce emissions and spark innovation.
Behind the letter are more than 60 business leaders from industries like oil and gas, mining, forestry, banking, building and more. It urges governments to press ahead with action climate change. The letter says that it’s in Canada’s self-interest to be at the front of the pack as the global economy makes a shift toward being more environmentally friendly.
Climate change will be a big topic of discussion at the conference in December, especially given the federal government’s announcement that they will be instituting a carbon tax.
Shell Canada president Michael Crothers is on the letter, he says the hope is that it will foster discussions between other industrial sectors. (kdr)
