Mayor Don Iveson is putting the full court press on the both the provincial and federal governments ahead of their spring budgets, trying to drive home the point that money for LRT is desperately needed in Edmonton.
At an event in west Edmonton to promote the need to expand the LRT to Lewis Estates, Iveson spoke of the need to build now, while prices are affordable.
Ryan Smith from Beaverbrook Developments says the partially built, and once abandoned high rise at 142nd street and Stony Plain road, is a great example of what LRT can do to promote growth in Glenora.
He says that’s why they redesigned the project.
“Essentially did a full redesign incorporating the bones of the existing structure, changed the compete aesthetic, changed the uses, changed the orientation of the uses, we added an internal road to the site, incorporated a larger plaza, reoriented the plaza to the south side and incorporated with the LRT an exposure to more sunlight on the south side and also changed the orientation of all the buildings.”
Smith says certainty from the government will eventually allow all five buildings to be built.
