The second annual Solar Trade Show is set to open today at NAIT.
The event is a showcase of solar technology for consumers, and 30 Alberta solar companies will have booths at the show.
Rob Harlan, the Executive Director of the Solar Energy Society of Alberta, said solar energy wasn’t on the radar for consumers in Alberta a few years ago, but business is expanding.
“Solar’s been growing very quickly in many countries around the world,” he said. “So we’re kind of catching up in a way.”
Harlan also says the business has changed measurably since he first got involved in the industry 40 years ago.
“When I first started off with this the technology was quite immature, it was inefficient, it was very expensive, and not very high quality,” he said. “That’s all changed. Now it’s technically astute, there’s 25-year warranties on a number of the products, the efficiency is way up, and the cost has come down.”
The trade show runs from 10 AM to 5 PM in NAIT’s Centre for Applied Technology.
