Today, I’d like you to meet Linda.
She has for some time, been suffering excruciating pain, in need of a hip replacement.
If you are on a waiting list for a similar operation, you know how frustrating and painful that can be, waiting to get a doctor’s appointment, and waiting and waiting and waiting for the surgery.
Linda’s doctor told her it would probably be two years of painful waiting.
Finally, she could not take it anymore.
Alberta health care was just not answering her needs.
She decided to use some of her savings to end the pain.
Linda flew to the Cayman Islands for the operation, which happened the day after she got there.
Now, she’s back home.
She’ll have some surgical pain for a few weeks, but tells me it’s nothing compared to that defective hip.
I’m wondering why Alberta health care seems defective.
Many people have told me that when you finally get into an Alberta hospital, the care is excellent.
So, why does it take so long to get relief from a surgeon?
Were we not promised improved wait times, or did I just imagine that while on pain medication?
Let me know how long you’ve been waiting.
