You’ve heard the call for Ottawa to get serious about the promised Pharmacare.
The people in charge of our health have been given a list of 117 drugs they need to get for a better price.
Drugs for everything from high blood pressure to diabetes to anti-depressants to pain would be less expensive in bulk.
The people who did the study say 1 in 10 people on medication do not even fill their prescriptions because they cannot afford it.
So, they end up in hospital and that becomes more expensive than paying for the drugs would have been.
It should not be difficult for a government to find a better price on drugs.
Tourists returning from Mazatlan who did not pack enough medication, found it cost just over half as much in Mexico, and the sign in the pharmacy window said “No prescription needed.”
Some friends of mine retired to Mexico where dental work and eye glasses are also a lot less expensive.
They tell me that since many Mexican pharmacists are doctors, the government has now ruled there cannot be a door directly from a doctor’s office into a pharmacy.
What we need is a door from the PM’s office into a pharmacy.
Let me know what you think.
