Charges have now been laid against a federal inmate who escaped from custody while he was at the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital.
The charges against Douglas Bruno John, who is 20, include assaulting a peace officer, escaping lawful custody, flight from a peace officer, theft of a truck, dangerous operation of the truck, and, finally, assaulting a police officer.
John is accused of overpowering a couple of correctional officers while he was at the hospital, early Saturday afternoon.
The Mounties said he was arrested near St. Paul, after a four-hour manhunt led to a brief pursuit of the pickup truck, with no serious injuries.
John has been serving time at the Edmonton Institution for armed robbery.
RCMP said he’s to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Mar. 9 at 9:30 a.m., and Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Mar. 16 at 9:30 a.m. (td)
