So Jason Kenney won the PC leadership.
There’s a steep hill ahead and all the party has done, at this point, is put gas in the car.
Kenney is a king without a throne.
The next thing that has to happen, is to find a PC MLA, loyal enough to resign to “spend more time with family”, and thereby create a by-election for Kenney to win.
It’s one thing for him to say what the party wants to hear to get elected leader.
It’s quite another to speak your mind in the legislature where the majority is not a friendly audience.
Kenney has no problem there, but he will need a plan.
With a seat, the conservative car would then be in motion, but it needs a GPS – not Government Powered Socialism, but rather Grassroots People-Say, with some direction to actually create jobs and kill the deficit.
They’ll need a plan to blend PC and Wildrose, and that rough road could mean some loose gravel and political potholes.
And, don’t think for a moment that the NDP will be asleep at the wheel. They won’t just be moving over to the slow lane so other cars can pass.
The next two years of Alberta politics is going to be very exciting.
Let me know how you want it to shake down.
