A high resolution video of Wednesday morning’s fatal hit and run has been reviewed by police.
A 53-year-old woman is dead after she was tossed in the air by a dark SUV. Police confirm she was walking against a red light.
“She was outside the marked cross walk at that location, but within the bounds of the intersection,” acting sergeant Darren Sunley said.
The collision was so severe, she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The woman’s body reportedly went up and over the hood. A collision that intense would leave evidence, according to Sunley.
“It will have damage on the front, bumper and grill. It will appear the left front headlight was broken out or went out as a result of the collision,” he said. “There should be damage as well to the hood and potentially to the windshield.”
Officers blocked off Fort Road between 130 and 135 Avenues for several hours Wednesday morning during the investigation of the collision that happened at around 1 a.m.
Sunley reviewed the video that was captured by a camera at the Century Casino.
“The video does have good clarity of the actual collision as it takes place,” he said.
However police do not have a licence plate to help with the investigation.
“This vehicle was travelling in the southbound lanes of Fort Road so it would be the opposite side of the roadway,” Sunley said. “The further you are away, and especially at night with limited light, it’s going to make it more difficult to locate.”
Police continue to look for a suspect.
