A magazine focusing on the different cultures in Edmonton has expanded to southern Alberta.
Diversity Magazine launched in Edmonton in 2012, with the intention of focusing on the African community.
But as Kimberley Iheksoaba told the Alberta Morning News Saturday, it expanded in 2014 to include other communities, and became a great way for readers to learn about one another.
“Sometimes we tend to stay in our own communities and do not engage in other backgrounds or different communities, and it’s a great way to learn about each other.”
Although the magazine shares stories from a variety of people, they’re not all exclusively immigrants.
Iheksoaba said they also recognize First Nations, and their readers are also from a variety of backgrounds.
“We have non-profits and businesses as well. We have minorities or immigrants as readers as well. So, it’s anybody that’s interested in and honours the multiculturalism in our society.”
Diversity Magazine expanded to Calgary this week, in the hopes of reaching even more people and sharing their stories.
