A heavy spring storm has left some places north of the city without power since Friday.
Outages have been reported in the areas of Grande Prairie, Slave Lake, Bonnyville and Cold Lake.
ATCO Electric says about 2,000 customers are without power through the Smoky Lake, St. Paul and Cold Lake area.
According to director of distribution operation for ATCO Electric, Brent Kobelka, the snow is causing a problem for their crews.
“What we’re faced with, especially in the Bonnyville, Cold Lake corridor, is they’ve had fairly sizeable amounts of snowfall. It’s making actually the roads difficult to travel on, we’re finding that on some of the rural grids that they’re actually getting stuck right in the middle of the road as they’re to get to customer sites.”
He said they have crews working around the clock trying to restore power.
No timeframe was given for when to expect the power back on.
Kobelka advised anyone who is without power to try and get somewhere warm.
“Probably the best is to do in situations is if you can get to a neighbor’s house or get to a family member that has power it’s probably best to leave the premises and to go to their place.”
