It’s not often you see Edmonton’s Chinese community upset with city hall enough that they take to the streets in protest.
I do remember them getting vocal was over the planned LRT route downtown.
The Boyle McCauley news website from the summer of 2011 shows them with a banner and signs saying LRT Good…Wrong Location.
They were concerned the proposed LRT route would destroy their elders’ community on 102nd Avenue.
And, more than that, they were complaining about a lack of consultation.
Now they are planning a Saturday protest march to city hall over guess what, more lack of consultation.
They say not even one Chinese person was involved in the process of selecting a safe injection site they believe will increase crime and lower property values and drive away business.
Sounds like a case of Injection Site Good…Wrong Location.
I think it’s a shame that any segment of our society has to take it to the streets to get city hall’s attention.
Let me know what you think about all of this.
