What's on your Bucket List?
Posted 12/29/2009 5:17:00 AM

Alright, spill. What's on your bucket list?

My friend Roma, whom I wrote about yesterday, is a very driven woman. Not only is she helping underprivileged people in Ecuador - she volunteers, works three jobs, and is in school to become a pediatric surgeon. Meanwhile, she still finds time to hang out with friends. She confided in me yesterday that being on the radio was on her bucket list. She was on the radio with me yesterday, so that's been checked off. She also mentioned wanting to donate a kidney as part of her list.

All this talk about bucket lists got me thinking. What's on my bucket list? What are some goals I'd like to achieve? What am I working toward?

I tweeted about starting a bucket list, and immediately Kelly sent me a link for inspiration. That link, was to the Day Zero Project. A site which helps and suggest things to add onto your bucket list. Then you can write notes on it, and check them off as you get them done.

It's mainly for people who are going to accomplish 101 things in 1001 days. So far, my bucket list has just over 50 things - including becoming a Private Investigator, feeding the Sea Lions in West Edmonton Mall, and Ride along with the EPS, EMS, and Edmonton Fire Rescue. (And let's not forget I still want to be the voice of the LRT.)

It's a fantastic tool, and one I'll keep updating. You can read my list (so far) and then, please, suggest things for me to add to my list. (do so in the comments below!)

Create your own list, or link me to one you have! I find it's helpful if we all collaborate on lists... because you never know what will spark inspiration. And if you don't want to start your own list, just leave some things on your bucket list below.

8:30am Update:

My friend Sid suggests singing King Tut with Steve Martin. I'd never heard of King Tut... but after seeing the following video, I had to add it!

Need inspiration? Here are some friends of the blog, who've made their Bucket Lists:

Roma's list
Paula's List
Kelly's List
Tamara's List
Jesse's List
Christine's List
Clinton's List
Deborah's List

On my bucket list - I've gone to Europe - did the whole tour thing. I've pet a dolphin so I guess I just have the desire to still: 1) meet Bret Hart and talk to him about how awesome his dad and family are 2) do an African Safari 3) meet Steve W 4) buy a Harley and travel cross country

She, I don't think that a list is supposed to make you feel regret at all if you don't finish everything. It's more about challenging you to live life to the fullest and the list is simply a reminder of the possibilities and a reminder of some of the things that you would like to experience. If you don't get around to experiencing them all, oh well. At least you experienced some of them. That's just how I feel about it, but I can totally see the validity of your point. I've often questioned whether or not I would feel disappointed if I didn't get it all done. But every time I cross something off that list, the feeling cannot be replicated. P.S. I admire your attempt to live in a "no regrets" manner. It's tough and something that I certainly am not able to do, but wish I could.

The more bucket lists I read, the more I wish we could do a communal bucket list where someone writes down what they want to accomplish and others who have accomplished it can cross it off/describe the experience. Think of the conversation possibilities (icebreakers) for a #yeg tweetup! Personally, I have no desire to write my own bucket list. For me a list represents potentials for regret and I'm trying to learn to live life in a "no regrets" manner these days...

Debra, we'll have to talk! I want to hear all about these completed list items. And I'm excited about your book.

I have done forty of your fifty-seven. And there is one is still a work in progress (write a book). Yikes. But oh yeah, I am old! And I "get around".Can you guess the 16 I have not done?
