The Cyber Corner

US worries about Cybersecurity ...

A top White House official says the US faces what he calls ``serious and significant'' threats against cyberspace.

And the top counterterrorism adviser says those threats, if realized, could compromise America's national security.

John Brennan is US President Barack Obama's top man when it comes to getting information to combat terrorism.

And on NBC's ``Meet The Press,'' Brennan says the administration is looking at the matter from both an espionage and terrorism point of view.

Brennan isn't naming any country or individuals who might be behind such cyberattacks, but lately there have been concerns that computer hackers in China have been able to infiltrate computer networks. (AP, ccg)

(China Hacking)

Police in central China have shut down a hacker training operation.

Authorities say it openly recruited thousands of members online and provided them with cyberattack lessons and malicious software. The crackdown comes amid growing concern that China is a centre for a global explosion of Internet crime.

Last month, Google said its e-mail accounts were hacked from China in an assault that also hit at least 20 other companies. (AP, ccg)
