A new study goes against what many people have thought about Internet use -- that it isolates people from one another.
The study from the Pew Internet and American Life Project says online activities like e-mail, blogging and using online hangouts like Facebook can put people in larger, more diverse social networks than they might get in the flesh-and-blood world.
The study refutes research earlier this decade that suggested that as people embraced technology, they would begin isolating themselves from close human connections. While the study finds that people don't have as many good friends as they used to, the reason isn't linked to technology. (ccg)
