The owners of a Siberian husky that attacked two children during the holidays say they will voluntarily have him euthanized.

Bert and Anja Weiner say they are `devastated and deeply regret' their dog's attack on the children at a snow hill the afternoon of Dec. 30.

8-year-old Drayden Ballantyne was bitten about 10 times after he came to his rescue of his sister Sara, 10. The girl was not harmed but the boy received seven stitches on his left temple, near his ear where a dog bite ripped open his skin, and bruises and puncture marks cover the young boy's arms, legs, back, buttocks and ribs.

The Weiners say they assume all responsibility for the tragedy.

They adopted 4-year-old Chinook from a Red Deer pet store about 18 months ago and were assured he was good with kids, and had lived with two children, age 9 and 11. (The Canadian Press, ccg)
