Lethbridge East MLA Bridget Pastoor is ruling out the possibility that she might cross the floor at the legislature.
While she says its no secret she began as a Lougheed tory, she says she turned liberal in the 1990's when she saw what the Klein health care cuts did to the system.
She says talking with old friends, does not constitute a walk across the aisle. Pastoor says she supports new Liberal leader David Swann. (efmb, ccg)
Statement from Bridget A. Pastoor, Alberta Liberal MLA Lethbridge East:
Having a conversation with an old friend from years gone by does not constitute a walk across the aisle.
It is no secret that I come from the ranks of the Lougheed Conservatives. I joined the Alberta Liberal Party and ran as their Candidate in Lethbridge East when I saw firsthand, as a Geriatric Specialist, the devastating effects of the health care and social programming cuts of the 1990s.
I have been teased by my Tory colleagues and Tory friends that they would be happy to have me back. While flattering, it is good humoured fun, which is reflective of my many years in politics and hopefully their respect of the job I have done in the past and the job I do currently.
I have the utmost respect for Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann, Premier Ed Stelmach and all hard-working MLAs.
Seniors’ issues and those that affect the constituents of Lethbridge are and remain my paramount concerns.
I will get back to the task at hand as an Alberta Liberal Caucus member and I will not cross the floor.
I support Dr. Swann’s commitment to democratic reform.
I will continue to represent my constituents and work with the other elected Members of the Legislature of Alberta and make this a strong and vibrant province for all.
