Edmonton City Council is "underwhelmed" by the initial development plans for the downtown airport lands.
Council has sent the administration back to the drawing board to come up with some thing that has more sizzle. At least one councillor sees this as a golden opportunity.
"I don't think there are any cities of this size that have 600-plus acres that they can suddenly do something with so close to their downtown," says Coun. Kim Krushell.
With that, the Ward 2 councillor, and eventual neighbor was hoping for something spectacular.
"Cities like Toronto have taken those opportunities, Vancouver with (its) waterfront," says Krushell. "We need to do something exciting like that, only we want to place set this around the issue of environment sustainability. So, we're talking LEED Platinum."
That is the highest possible environmental standard.(sj/bp)
