The province and Rice University in Houston have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on developing new products through nanotechnology.
The first discoveries in nanotechnology were researched at Rice. The university's president David Leebron says the hope is to create cost-saving ways to produce clean energy.
"Whether it's building wires that are incredibly efficient at transmitting electricity so you could transmit electricity produced in Canada and transmit it to Mexico if there were such a thing," says Leebron.
Premier Stelmach says the province wants to create $20 billion worth of nanotechnology commerce by the year 2020. (sj/bp)
