Tolko Industries Ltd. says it is closing its High Level, sawmill until further notice, throwing almost 200 people out of work.
Tolko vice-president Mike Harkies says the mill will remain closed until market conditions improve. Harkies says demand for lumber products remains weak but he expects some improvement later this year.
Earlier this month Millar Western announced it was terminating or laying off 138 workers from its lumber and pulp operations in Alberta.
Millar Western operates in Whitecourt, Boyle and Fox Creek. (The Canadian Press, CKYL, ccg)
