An NDP member of the Alberta legislature says the province has to get with the times and declare that gay rights are protected.
Rachel Notley says it should be spelled out in Alberta's human rights act.
Notley noted it's been 10 years since a Supreme Court ruling preventing provincial governments from excluding gays and lesbians from human rights legislation.
Lindsay Blackett, the minister of culture and community spirit, says an ongoing review of Alberta's Human Rights Commission started in April.
He says a new commissioner has been appointed `as the first step at reforming the administrative process.'
But Notley says it's obvious the government is dragging its feet on the matter on purpose.
