No deadly ecstasy in Edmonton: E.M.S.
7:43AM

3/23/2009

UPDATE: The poisonings at the Paul Band west of Edmonton appear to involve an isolated batch of tainted drugs and not the much larger drug community in Edmonton.

EMS has not seen any recent cases of people being hospitalized here after taking ecstasy laced with rat poison or anything similar.

There have been tainted drug illnesses and even deaths in Edmonton in recent years, including some involving stolen diabetes medication, but nothing out of the ordinary involving ecstasy.

There have been suggestions the drugs involved in the Paul Band incident were obtained in the city .... or might be headed here. (ED, ccg)

Teen girls overdose on drug, 2 in coma in Edmonton hospital: C.T.V. reports
4:00AM

Three teenage girls were in an Edmonton hospital after overdosing on a drug at a wedding celebration.

Charles Bird, who knows some of the victims, says six girls took the drugs Saturday during a wedding round dance at an elementary school on the Paul Band First Nation west of Edmonton. Bird told CTV that the girls took ecstasy and got sick.

A spokesman for Alberta Health Services says two girls were in critical condition and the third was in stable at the Stollery Children's Hospital. She says the girls came in Saturday night and `all we know is that it's a drug overdose.'

Paul Band First Nation Chief Daniel Paul said the band has a strict no-drugs policy, but sometimes drugs are used outside band facilities where youth hang out. (The Canadian Press, CTV Edmonton, ta, ccg)
