Benoit's father still wants answers

The father of the late pro wrestler Chris Benoit still has unanswered questions.

Michael Benoit of Edmonton is reacting to news that his son's former personal doctor is going to prison for 10 years. Doctor Phil Astin was sentenced Tuesday for illegally distributing prescription drugs out of his Georgia clinic, and that some of his clients had no idea what the effects the drugs would have on them.

What's not clear is whether Chris Benoit was one of the victims. His father says he's been unable to get his son's medical records up to now.

"Now, since the trial is over, perhaps that will be made available to us," says Benoit. "Perhaps that will provide more insight to how the doctor was treating my son, whether or not he was doing the proper follow-up, and making sure that what he was prescribing was doing any good, or if my son just kept asking for it. I'm really not sure."

The elder Benoit says he has no doubt his son suffered from a condition caused by trauma to the head, not steroid abuse, which kept him from thinking clearly -- and, eventually led Chris to kill his wife, son, and then himself in 2007.(sb/bp)
