A teacher in Medicine Hat, has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault of a female student.

Gregory Fritzke, 43, is also charged with accessing and possessing child pornography as well as breaching a condition of his release. He is scheduled to return to court on July 23 for those charges, as well as to set a trial date for the sex charge.

Fritzke, who was vice-principal at Ross Glen Elementary School, was charged in January after police received a tip from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. About a month later, Medicine Hat police laid a charge of sexual assault and sexual exploitation for incidents alleged to have happened in 2004 while Fritzke was vice-principal at Alexandra Junior High School.

Police say a complainant, who is now 18, came forward. (cp, jc)
