Over 1200 paddlers on 52 teams will be hitting the water this weekend for the 13th Annual Edmonton Dragonboat Festival.
Christine Johnson is the Festival Coordinator. She says, organizers are looking to turn a rather infamous number's reputation on it's ear. "It's 'Lucky 13' she says of the theme, "and we're offering a variety of 'number 13's' though the festival, such a 13 options for parking and 13 entertainers for 13 minutes, so we're trying to embrace the positive side of 13 and be lucky."
If you want to check out the races, preliminaries start this evening a little after 7:00PM at Louise McKinney Park.
If you get there by 6:00PM, you can check out the opening ceremonies complete with a traditional Lion Dance and a blessing of the boats by Bhuddist Monks. Races start up again tomorrow
(Saturday)
at 8:00AM.
