Cowboy hat and boots were plentiful at Northlands today but they weren't there for an early Halloween party.
Canadian rodeo champions gathered for the preview of the Canadian Finals Rodeo kick off in over a week. Competitors from across North American, and even New Zealand, will be vying for the top spots.
Dusty Lavallui, from Crooked Creek, Alberta, heads into the competition as the season leader in bareback riding. He can't say enough about the quality of the CFR. "They have the best bucking horses in the world, a lot of the best competitors in the world and," he says, "there's a lot of money here for us to win." He adds that the fans are amazing and the the atmosphere when you enter Northlands just puts goosebumps on you.

After watching her kids compete for years, Adele Hansen from Okotoks took her shot this year. She's at the CFR for the first time as the 2009 barrel racing rookie of the year. "It was so much hard work to get here. Like everyone else - a lot of miles and a lot of vet bills and ups and downs but in the end you just have to keep the goal in mind and I'm finally here."
This year is the 36th CFR and the contract is in place to keep it at Northlands until 20-16. It runs from the 11th to 15th of November. (ly)
