Students overwhelmed with possible hikes
11:45am
Leslie Stein
11/19/2009
With talks of possible tuition hikes, 4 % at NAIT and now word today that the U of A could be facing a 66 % increase students are becoming overwhelmed.
Many will be left scrambling to come up with the funds if the proposed hike becomes a reality.
Jonathan Speiss, a senior at Holy Trinity has his heart set on attending the U of A, but he said if tuition goes up he may be forced to look elsewhere
“If this does happen I will be looking into other opinion, because at some point it’s just too expensive.”
Jonathan said he already works part-time and may have to consider other options to save money such as taking a year off.
Jennifer Duong, also a grade 12 student at Holy Trinity said she may be forced to look at getting a second job.
“I have to pay for my own tuition; my family is not rich so I might have to work a second job just to come up with the money.” “I mean sure, there are student loans but I don’t want to be stuck paying in the future.”
