The Rexall Edmonton Indy race lost $3.9 million dollars this past summer. That's more than twice the original projections.

Northlands President and CEO Ken Knowles says they were able to cut costs by $3 million, but hit the guard rail when it came to corporate sponsorships, "What we have to do is increase the revenue as we go forward to 2010. We have to engage the corporate community because they're benefiting from this event coming into Edmonton."

Councillor Tony Caterina, adds that the province provided $800,000 in funding for 2008, but didn't last year. And, since money from the federal government was less than expected, city council has agreed to cover the short fall from its contingency fund. (sj, ccg)
