A man is dead and police have no suspects.

Around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, witnesses heard gunshots fired in the alley behind a laundromat at 106th Avenue and 105th Street.

One resident said he heard a "bang, bang," but didn't look outside his apartment until police arrived.

Another person came into the laundromat and informed the owner, there was a man with blood on him in a car behind the store.

Abida Shakin, whose family has owned the laundromat for the past four months, says she didn't see much, when she poked her head outside the door.

"I didn't go outside," she said. "I opened the door a bit, and that's it."

Shakin, along with other residents, called 911.

EPS spokesman Dean Parthenis says: "Once they (police) arrived on scene, they noticed there was a deceased male in the front seat.  Obviously, at this point in time, homicide section is investigating, as is the medical examiner's office."

Witnesses said they saw three men leaving the scene.

Parthenis couldn't confirm that, but did say they need the public's help locating a suspect.

"There are a number of people walking in the area," he said. "Somebody else might have heard something, might have seen something. Officers could certainly use that information to help track down a possible suspect, because at this point in time, there is no suspect information as of yet."

Onlookers at the scene say the victim belonged to the local Somali community, however police couldn't confirm the man's age or nationality.

An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.

If you have any information, you're asked to call EPS at (780) 423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Edmonton's 25th homicide of 2009. (blb/dl)
