Fans of the Alouettes enjoyed the final cheer at bars across Edmonton.
This as Montreal defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the 2009 Grey Cup.
The Alouettes used the last play of the game to kick the winning field goal over the heads of the Roughriders.
Bernie was cheering for Saskatchewan at Players Sports Bar and took the loss in stride.
"They played an excellent game and you couldn't ask for anything more," says Bernie. “We’ll defeat them next year.”
Meanwhile Bernie's long time friend Tanya just happened to be visiting from Montreal.
"You know what, the last quarter (of play) made up for the first three," says Tanya. “Go Montreal go!”
The pair from opposite sides of the Grey Cup say they've been best friends for 18 years, and they're “staying that way.”
In the meantime Gary Blaine, the General Manger of Players, is looking forward to the Eskimos making it to the Grey Cup next year with the City of Edmonton playing host.
"They'll come out hungry next year because of it," says Blaine. "And being that it's in town, I think they'll be playing extra hard to get there."
Blaine says this years Grey Cup party was an excellent way to mark the one year anniversary of Players Sports Bar.
Adding the Super Bowl is going to be their next big football event with five giant television screens to entertain, and prizes galore. (td)
